Say what?! Finalist for Best Pet Blog Photo!

I am beyond words to express how excited we are to be a finalist at the Nose-to-Nose awards again this year! I feel like Sally Fields at the 1984 Oscars; crying and spouting gibberish. And if by chance we do win this year I will probably be completely ridiculous!

This year we are up for Best Pet Blog Photo for Basil discovers the joy of mud. I personally love these photos and I’m so happy they were nominated.

The Nose-to-Nose awards are held every year at the BlogPaws blogging conference. This year the conference is taking place in the country music capital, Nashville, TN. In 84 short days (We are hoping they are short because we really can’t wait!) Nashville will be over taken with dog/cat/ferret/bird/hippo bloggers and their pets. (Hopefully no hippos!) Along with the awards show the weekend will be packed full of classes, lectures, and socials so bloggers from all over the world can meet & mingle.

Last year was our first BlogPaws conference and it was such a blast. In honor of BlogPaws and throwback Thursday here is a photo of us on the red carpet from last years Nose-to-Nose awards.

Now I need to amp up my bow tie making game. This year I am thinking maybe matching bow ties for all of us? We’ll have to wait and see!

A Snowy Evening walk

Well, they said 6 to 10 inches of snow… That didn’t happen! We woke up this morning to clear roads and little bits of snowy yards. But last night was beautiful!

Last night Nate, Basil, and I went and visited my parents and on the walk back we got to enjoy a true peaceful winter wonderland.

Although our dreams of a full blown snow day with hot chocolate and sledding down our hill didn’t happen, some snow is better than no snow!

It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas!

Well, thanksgiving is done and over and Christmas is now everywhere. We got our tree a couple of weeks ago but it’s just now that the harvest decor is coming down and it’s really starting to feel like Christmas.
Since getting our tree all of our local friends have been asking us where we got it and I’m happy to share.
Our beautiful 8 foot tall Fraser fir came from a little family farm in the Smoky Mountains called Little Switzerland Fraser Firs. About an hour and a half from our home outside Charlotte, high in the mountains sits a dog friendly, family friendly slice of Christmas tree utopia.
Little Switzerland Fraser Firs has hundreds of beautiful Fraser fir Christmas trees to chose from. From tall to small you really can’t go wrong. This is our 2nd year cutting down a tree from there and as long as we are in North Carolina, it is the only place we’ll go.

As you can see we really had a great time. Basil even made two new friends, a horse and another Boston terrier!

Baby its cold outside! Getting ready for Winter!

Where is this year going?! Thanksgiving is just a couple of days away and then its Christmas and before you know its 2015! We have been super busy getting ready for our upcoming Christmas trip to Texas as well as counting down the moments until Thanksgiving. On top of all of that its been really cold here! Basil has been wearing his Chilly Dog sweaters everyday for warmth but I started to worry about his little puppy paws. Last winter, when we got our Christmas tree and when we had our Valentine’s Day snow storm, Basil loved running around outside until his Boston terrier paw pads where so red mommy had to take him in.

We have talked about getting him some little dog booties in the past and even tried them on, with much resistance, but never committed to purchase. I felt now was the time, especially when we are traveling into the smoky mountains this weekend to chop down our 2014 Xmas tree.

Basil, Nate, and I took a trip to our local Petco in search of ridiculously cute boots for dogs. Oh, we found them! We decided on the Pup Crew Fall 2014 dark blue quilted zip dog shoes in size Large.

Basil is such a good sport and let me put these boots right on him in a flash, this time with little to no struggle.

Once his four paws hit the floor he was a little wary. As he “walked” around the house he looked more like a prancing pony or bow-legged crazy than my normal happy go lucky dog. It took a little getting use to. We even had him wear them outside on a walk to Nana & Papa’s house. After a few minutes of that same silly gate Basil seem to understand what was going on and started to walk normally. I think he actually realized that his paws were warm and dry while outside and he liked that.

Southend Dog Crawl — Club Fetch to The Unknown Brewing Co.

Thursday evening was a blast! Basil is still recovering from the huge amount of friends and fun that happened during this months historic southend dog crawl. Hosted by the fabulous Club Fetch and sponsored by The Canine Cafe and The Unknown Brewing Co. Charlotte area pet parents gathered at Club Fetch and then made our way a mile down the road to The Unknown Brewing Co. The Canine Cafe provided dog food samples, puppy treats, and even a dog friendly birthday cake to celebrate the birthday of The Unknown Brewing Co.’s brew dog, Patton. New friends were made, butts were sniffed, and a good time was had by all! Basil can’t wait until the next dog crawl!

Thank Dog its Friday! Thanks again to Blaire, Jackson, and Julia at Club Fetch for this amazing event. Also, thanks to The Canine Cafe for the treats and The Unknown Brewing Co. for letting us take over your brew house for a couple of hours! Thunderstorm Thursday!

Happy Thursday everyone! Its been super stormy all day today so everyone has been staying in the house and trying to stay dry. We have a full house this week. Jack the golden retriever is staying with us and he is a little bit of a baby. (He is scared of thunder!) He has been hiding behind a trash can in our office for the majority of the day. Luckily enough it stopped raining right around our usual puppy walk time. We headed out for a wet two dog walk.

BlogPaws 2014! So far…

We are here! BlogPaws 2014 on beautiful Lake Las Vegas! Basil is loving it so much it’s almost impossible to get a post up! Nate, Basil, and I have been go-go-going for the last couple of days. We are making a lot of new friends and learning a lot. I finally have a moment (Basil is napping!) to share a little collage I put together of some of my favorite photos so far!
