Say what?! Finalist for Best Pet Blog Photo!

“You like me, you really like me!” -Sally Fields (Oscars 1984)BST-PETBLOG-PHOTO-n2n2015-FINALISTbadge

I am beyond words to express how excited we are to be a finalist at the Nose-to-Nose awards again this year! I feel like Sally Fields at the 1984 Oscars; crying and spouting gibberish. And if by chance we do win this year I will probably be completely ridiculous!

This year we are up for Best Pet Blog Photo for Basil discovers the joy of mudI personally love these photos and I’m so happy they were nominated.

Basil discovers mud

I share this category with these 3 other awesome blogs. Make sure to go check them out!

The Nose-to-Nose awards are held every year at the BlogPaws blogging conference. This year the conference is taking place in the country music capital, Nashville, TN. In 84 short days (We are hoping they are short because we really can’t wait!) Nashville will be over taken with dog/cat/ferret/bird/hippo bloggers and their pets. (Hopefully no hippos!) Along with the awards show the weekend will be packed full of classes, lectures, and socials so bloggers from all over the world can meet & mingle.

Last year was our first BlogPaws conference and it was such a blast. In honor of BlogPaws and throwback Thursday here is a photo of us on the red carpet from last years Nose-to-Nose awards. blogPaws 2014

Now I need to amp up my bow tie making game. This year I am thinking maybe matching bow ties for all of us? We’ll have to wait and see!

Hope everyone is enjoying their Thursday. Have any awesome weekend plans?

It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas!

Well, thanksgiving is done and over and Christmas is now everywhere. We got our tree a couple of weeks ago but it’s just now that the harvest decor is coming down and it’s really starting to feel like Christmas.
Since getting our tree all of our local friends have been asking us where we got it and I’m happy to share.
Our beautiful 8 foot tall Fraser fir came from a little family farm in the Smoky Mountains called Little Switzerland Fraser Firs. About an hour and a half from our home outside Charlotte, high in the mountains sits a dog friendly, family friendly slice of Christmas tree utopia.
Little Switzerland Fraser Firs has hundreds of beautiful Fraser fir Christmas trees to chose from. From tall to small you really can’t go wrong. This is our 2nd year cutting down a tree from there and as long as we are in North Carolina, it is the only place we’ll go.

As you can see we really had a great time. Basil even made two new friends, a horse and another Boston terrier!
If you are in the area and still in the need of a Christmas tree make sure to check out Little Switzerland Fraser Firs.

What does your Christmas tree look like? Send us photos and I’ll post them here! Hope everyone is surviving the week and the weather!

PS… As I’m posting this I had to stop Willow (our 20 lb. cat!) from drinking our of the Christmas tree stand, TWICE!

Throwback Thursday – I woke up this way!

Throwback Thursday – Summer 2011

Hello all! Life has been crazy in our neck of the woods this last week and by crazy I mean sickly. First the husband got it and then I got it and now, after thinking we were both done with it, the little bugger is trying to hold on! Its been a week of working from bed, drinking a lot of tea, and snuggling with Basil even more than normal.

For todays throwback thursday enjoy a few photos of sweet old Nolan back from the summer of 2011, when we took our engagement pictures. And even though Nolan didn’t make it to the wedding, I am so happy to have these photos to remember him by. Happy Thursday everyone… Stay well!

Throwback Thursday – Best Cartoon Dogs from the 90’s

Happy Thursday everyone! For this Throwback Thursday we going to take you back to our favorite decade, the 1990’s! Back in the 90’s there were some great cartoons and some every better cartoon TV dogs. This list is our top 10 favorite dogs we wish were still around or at least still on TV!

#10 Clifford the Big Red Dog 1988 – 2003

Clifford the Big Red Dog

In the early 90’s I loved Clifford! When the Scholastic book fair came to school I always had to get a new CBRD book. Then the TV show started and Clifford was just as sweet on the small screen as he was in the pages of my books!

#9 Spike from Rugrats 1991 – 2004

Spike From The Rugrats

Spike, the good old dog from Rugrats. He looked after Tommy, Chuckie, Angelica, and the twins, Phil & Lil,  when their parents were nowhere to be found. Spike is number 9 on our list because he was a true loyal pet and an all around silly dog.

#8 Astro from The Jetsons TV: 1962 – 1987 Movie: 1990

Astro from The Jetsons

Okay, The Jetsons aren’t really a TV show from the 1990’s but if you were a kid watching Saturday morning cartoons in the early 90’s you pretty much loved The Jetsons. The idea that the future could someday look like this and that we were going to walk our dogs outside on a flying treadmill was so magical. In The Jetson everything was so different but one thing stayed the same, Astro their crazy dog.

#7 Odie from Garfield 1982 – Present

Odie from Garfield

Odie was a great TV dog! He loved his cat to the extreme and had no cute that Garfield hated his guts.

#6 Underdog 1964 – 1973 Syndication until 1996

Underdog

Reruns count! Not being old enough to have watched the original airings of Underdog all I got was reruns. If you haven’t watched Underdog before make sure to look it up and enjoy!

#5 Brain from Inspector Gadget TV: 1983 – 1986 Syndication until the late 1990’s Movie: 1999

Brain

The show was called Inspector Gadget but it really should have been call The Penny & Brain show. The inspector may of had all the gadgets but Brain was the real “brains” of the operation. Calling it now, smartest dog on TV!

#4 Buttons from Animaniacs: Mindy & Buttons 1993 – 1998

Buttons and Mindy from Animaniacs

Buttons, the dog that looked after Mindy, the little girl who can’t stop getting in trouble. He loved her so much he was willing to put his life on the line every week, just to save hers!

#3 Pork-chop From Doug 1991 – 1996

Porkchop from Doug

Pork-chop is number 3 on our list not just because he was a awesome dog to Doug but Pork-chop is an amazing dog name!

#2 Scooby Doo 1969 – Present

Scooby Doo

Not much needs to be said… Scooby Doo rocks!

#1 Ren & Stimpy 1991 – 1996

Ren&Stimpy

Ren & Stimpy may look like a sweet kid show but it was far from that! A (at times) gruesome and hilarious for adults only kind of show. Its number one on our list because even though it was pretty ridiculous it is a cartoon classic!

Hope you like our list. Let me know in the comments below of some of your all-time favorite TV pets.

Throwback Thursday – No No Nolan in Leavenworth, WA

Hello all! This throwback Thursday I would love to share a photo of our late Boston Nolan. One of his all time favorite places to travel, as well as Basil’s, is Leavenworth, WA. This photo was taken back in the summer of 2011 and I can tell you that it was a very hot day. We tried to get Nolan to go swimming but even though it was over a 100 degrees out the river water, which was flowing right from the mountain hills, was very brisk. This photo shows you just about how much No No Nolan was willing to put up with when it comes to the act of swimming!

After this photo was snapped I got him a little wet, gave him a drink of fresh water, and headed back to the comfortable air conditioned hotel. In Nolan’s eyes that was just heaven!

Coming next week for #TravelTuesday I will be posting Basil’s Travel review of Leavenworth so make sure to check back then.

Throwback Thursday – Basil’s best friend! Jack!

On this throwback Thursday enjoy a few photos of Jack, Basil’s best friend! These photos are from way back in April 2009 when Jack (who is currently 100+ LBs.) was just 7 weeks old and a huge ball of fur! If you follow this blog regularly you know that Jack looks much different now. If not, check it out here!
