Basil’s Favorite Things – Chilly Dog Sweaters

Its TGIF and you know what that means… Basil’s favorite things! This Friday, as the weather almost everywhere turns to full on fall we decided to share a long time Basil “must have.” The Chilly Dog sweaters are handmade in South America and 100% wool. They follow fair trade guidelines and give all the employees a fair wage. Not only do we love their company practices but their sweaters are top-notch.

From XS to XL these sweaters fit almost ever dog shape. For Basil, it’s almost impossible to find a well fitted sweater based on his broad chest and thick Boston neck. When we came across Chilly Dog a few years ago at our favorite pet store, All The Best Pet Care, we fell in love. The perfect cold weather dog sweater and every year they sold like hot cakes in Seattle. The first sign that it was going to be wet and cold for awhile we let Basil pick out a few of his favorites.

Right now, while we are traveling in the South, today was the first truly chilly day. I pulled out his moose sweater and slipped it right on. The thick wool and hood, with the most adorable moose ears warmed him right up. If you’re looking for a sweater for your four legged friend and may be having a hard time finding a good fit or just don’t want a prissy dog sweater make sure to check out the Chilly Dog website

So, today we are going to enjoy this brisk fall day without having to worry that my little guy is going to catch cold. Enjoy your weekend!

For the first edition of Basil’s favorite things we wanted to share our love of BowHausNYC. Its a chic luxury dog accessories brand that carries everything a hipster dog of the city needs. Not only is it amazingly handy its the most stylish portable water bowl I’ve ever seen. One Kings Lane

Also, for about the next 2 days One Kings Lane, who is also an amazing site for home goods and whatnots, is having a sale on this exact item. Head over to One Kings Lane to find this BowHausNYC dog bowl at a really great price.

Throwback Thursday – King’s Hardware

For this TBT I thought I would share a photo from last year that was taken at one of our absolutely favorite bars in Seattle, King’s Hardware. Head down Ballard Ave any day and its a great spot but its just perfect after hitting up the farmers market on Sundays. They allow dogs inside and on their patio. Check it out! Have a bloody Mary and seriously maybe the best burger in the city. Trust me, you will not be sorry!

Every dog needs a pickle pocket!

Hello! Basil was being a little too needy so I pulled out his favorite toy, the pickle pocket! It is kind of the best toy ever. Fill it with whatever your dog loves and they are happy for at least an hour… maybe. Enjoy this video of Basil enjoying his P.P filled with some lamb lung. Its both hilarious and a little gross! Hehe

Lions, tigers and turtles?! Oh My!!

Its Halloween time again and that means everyone from little kiddies to partying adults to the our four legged friends get ready to dress up and have a good time! Here in this household we are big into dressing up. Usually Willow FC “begs” to be a blow fish and Sebastian just “loves” his hot dog costume. Last year, Basil decided he was going to be a pirate. Mostly because Nate & I went as Peter Pan and Ticker bell and Basil loves to match.Halloween2012

This year we thought we would ask all of Basil’s loving fans to vote on their favorite costume  for Halloween 2013. Below you will find sample photos, all from wag.com, and a poll to tell us what you think. Whatever is voted highest by Friday October 11th will be Basil costume this year. Thanks for your help in this very important matter and we will announce the winner this weekend and some adorable photos will follow!

What should Basil be for Halloween 2013?

Throwback Thursday – Remembering No No Nolan

Happy throwback Thursday! On this TBT we wanted to remember an old friend that we lost almost two years ago. He came to our home as an 11 year old foster in pretty bad shape. Severely over weight, very smelly and with an awful name, No No Bad Dog!! Well, after a few puppy baths and a healthy meal we decided that he could’t go on with the rest of his life with such a rude name. We tried a few names that started with the letter N but nothing seemed to stick. I don’t remember who thought of the name Nolan but the moment it was said out loud he knew and we knew, that was it!Nonoglasses

No No Nolan was the original traveling Boston terrier. Despite his advanced age he was a trooper. Once he lost a bit of weight he was walking to the farmers market in Ballard, WA every Sunday. He was hiking with us in Leavenworth, shopping in Portland and picnicking with us anywhere and everywhere. Nolan had a heart of gold and loved everyone! Even though Basil never got to meet his amazing older brother I just know they would have been the best of friends.

We lost Nolan very suddenly at the age of 12 the day before Thanksgiving 2011. I miss him everyday and I have never again met a dog with the same personality.

No No Nolan was proof that when you are looking for a new pet, giving an older dog a chance can really be an amazing thing.

Basil was very happy to be able to share his blog to remember the original Myers family traveling Boston terrier, Nolan!

It was the best day ever!

This last Sunday may have been Basil’s favorite day ever! It was a fun filled day that started with pumpkin picking, a Boston terrier meet-up, and then a few hours at The Dog Bar to watch the Seattle Seahawks kick ass and win against the Jaguars. Basil made two new friends. Cleo, a 3 month old baby Boston who he got to run amuck with at the dog park and then a un-named older Boston that was very humpy at The Dog Bar.

It may have been the best day ever! Enjoy the photo proof of the best day ever (!!) and more travels will be coming soon!
