Southend Dog Crawl — Club Fetch to The Unknown Brewing Co.

Thursday evening was a blast! Basil is still recovering from the huge amount of friends and fun that happened during this months historic southend dog crawl. Hosted by the fabulous Club Fetch and sponsored by The Canine Cafe and The Unknown Brewing Co. Charlotte area pet parents gathered at Club Fetch and then made our way a mile down the road to The Unknown Brewing Co. The Canine Cafe provided dog food samples, puppy treats, and even a dog friendly birthday cake to celebrate the birthday of The Unknown Brewing Co.’s brew dog, Patton. New friends were made, butts were sniffed, and a good time was had by all! Basil can’t wait until the next dog crawl!Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBCHistoric Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC Historic Southend Dog Crawl - TUBC

Basil’s Favorite Things – Burt’s Bees Dog Shampoo

Its Friday and its time for a very over due bath for Sir Basil. Somehow he has gotten out of it everyday for about the last month; Not today! I started the bath, added the bubbles and wake him up from his daily afternoon nap.

He begged me with those eyes to keep that very strong dog odor that he worked so hard for, but it didn’t work!

So, after a few moments of the sad eyes, in the bath Basil went. Being the amazing dog that Basil is he doesn’t fight it or cry he just tries to enjoy the warm water and yummy smell coming from his favorite puppy shampoo. Burt’s Bees Apple & Eucalyptus Deodorizing Shampoo is just perfect. It smells fantastic, bubbles up well, and cleans this little black & white dog like nobodies business!

If you haven’t used Burt’s Bees before we highly recommend it. Their shampoo is made from natural ingredients and is 100% cruelty free. Its easy on Basil sensitive skin and leaves him smelling like apples!

After being soaped up and then rinsed off it was time to call in the “muscle”, also know as my husband. We have a very old house and a super deep bath tub so lifting a wet, 25 lb. dog out of the bath without getting soaked is a little tricky for me.

Once out we dried him off and watched his attitude change from sad face back to the happiest dog in the world! He knows that always after a bath he gets rewarded with many treats, which he totally did! He now smells delicious and I hope that lasts for a long time.

If you are looking for a new dog shampoo give Burt’s Bees a try. You can find at pet stores or we always get it in the pet section of Home Goods.

Hope everyone is have happy Friday and staying warm!

4th Annual Pet Blogger Challenge by GoPetFriendly.com

Today this post is for the 4th Annual Pet Blogger Challenge that is put on by gopetfriendly.com. I’ll answer some questions about my blog and what my goals are for 2014. Hope you enjoy and I can’t wait to read everyone else’s responses.

PBC

1. How long have you been blogging? Please tell us why you started blogging, and, for anyone stopping by for the first time, give us a quick description of what your blog is about.

I started Basil’s Travels about 6 months ago. My husband, dog (Basil) and I love to travel and one morning this last summer the idea of sharing our stories with fellow dog & travel lovers popped into my head via a silly made up song! Our blog is about travel tips and adventures but also about the silly goings-on of a soon to be 4 year old Boston Terrier.

2. Name one thing about your blog, or one blogging goal that you accomplished during 2013, that made you most proud.

The one thing that probably makes me most proud is the response I have received from all over the world. Basil is such an amazing dog and to hear that from people we have never met before or people from other countries really makes me smile.

3. When you look at the post you wrote for last year’s Pet Blogger Challenge, or just think back over the past year, what about blogging has changed the most for you?

This is Basil’s Travels 1st Pet Blogger Challenge but when I think back over all the posts from last year I see just how much I have “traveled” out of the box. When I first started I was sure of what I could and couldn’t do. Now I feel like I have tried new things that I may have been scared to try at the beginning.

4. What lessons have you learned this year – from other blogs, or through your own experience – that could help us all with our own sites?

I have learned to be happy about similar blogs and not sad. This sounds kind of silly but at the beginning I was so afraid that I wasn’t going to get views or followers because there are many other pet travel blogs like Basil’s Travels. Now I see those other blogs as encouragement and less as competition. I love reading fellow pet blogs and think I can only learn and grow from their wisdom. I feel like the pet blogging veterans have blazed the trail for all of us newbies and I am very grateful!

If you could ask the pet blogging community for help with one challenge you’re having with your blog, what would it be?

My question would be, how do you stay positive when it comes to writers block? I find some weeks I have so many ideas that my fingers are burning a hole in my keyboard and then some weeks I’m looking at my computer screen with not one idea in my head. It can get very discouraging and sometimes it is very hard to get out of that funk!

5. What have you found to be the best ways to bring more traffic to your blog, other than by writing great content?

I have found that social media does wonders! I absolutely love Twitter and use it multiply times a day. I link my new posts, add silly photos and sometimes just let my followers in on what we are doing right at that moment. I also, tweet at the business or city I am writing about. If your content is good and your photos are of high quality its pretty easy to get a retweet. I have found that this brings way more traffic to my blog than I ever thought it would. It also helps me connect to other pet bloggers and it actually lead me to find this very Pet Blogger Challenge!

6. How much time to do you spend publicizing your blog, and do you think you should spend more or less in the coming year?

I try to spend at least 1 hour a day getting my blog out there. I know Basil & I are still a small fish in a large pond so the more I can let people know about what we doing the better. I know that a lot of people spend hours each day and I hope to commit more time everyday this coming year.

7. How do you gauge whether or not what you’re writing is appealing to your audience?

On Basil’s Travels I use Google Analytics. It helps me see what gets a lot of views and when someone spends a good amount of time on my blog or if they just click and move along. I also relay on my close friends and family for their honest opinions on what is working and what isn’t.

How do you know when it’s time to let go of a feature or theme that you’ve been writing about for a while?

I’ll stop doing a feature when it becomes work! This is my passion so if something really becomes hard is when its time to think of something else and move on. If its too much work its just going to come across forced and no one wants to read that!

8. When you’re visiting other blogs, what inspires you to comment on a post rather than just reading and moving on?

I’ll comment when I find myself wanting to continue reading even when its over. If I can relate to the piece or if you can really feel the writers love for what they are talking about I’ll comment. Maybe just to tell them I loved the piece or maybe to ask questions. I love when people leave comments on my post and always want to get praise to other bloggers.

9. Do you do product reviews and/or giveaways?

Almost ever Friday I do a feature called Basil’s Favorite Things which really is a product review of things that Basil’s loves using or that we feel like others need to know about. As for giveaways, I haven’t yet done one just because I want to put together a really good one. But there is a good one currently in the works right now!

10. When writer’s block strikes and you’re feeling dog-tired, how do you recharge?

I change my scenery! Sometimes its as easy as going to the local Starbucks and finding a comfy chair and really focus. Sometimes its a little harding and I have to just walk away from it. Come back to it later and hope that that helps my process.

11. Have you ever taken a break from your blog? How did that go?

Being such a new blogger I haven’t yet taken a real break. I want to get my name out there and maybe once I am where I want to be I’ll think about taking a break. But I don’t know if I will ever be at that place. Onward and up-ward!

Have you ever thought about quitting your blog altogether? What makes you stay?

I get discouraged every now and then but I don’t think I’ll ever quit. Basil is such an amazing dog and just his face makes me want to share it with as many people as I can. Maybe if we become hermits and never leave the house but I think even then I’ll still be blogging about the everyday antics of a shut-in!

12. What goals do you have for your blog in 2014?

My goals for 2014 would probably be to make more friends and get more involved in the pet blogging community. Everyone I have met so far is so friendly and I would love to start new relationships with fellow bloggers. Maybe host some guest bloggers and do some guest blogging for others. Anything that happens is a blessing and all I can say is Bring on 2014!

Happy New Year! Basil 2014 Resolutions!

Happy New Year! 2013 is coming to an end and 2014 is just about to start. Here is a list of Basil’s (and my) 2014 resolutions.

  1. Travel Abroad (Hoping to visit Prague, sometime this coming year!)
  2. Meet more dog friends and explore new places together.
  3. Find a Dog Yoga Class (It may not be possible where we are currently traveling but I bet I’ll be able to find one once we are back in good ole’ Seattle.)
  4. Share more DIY projects. Basil’s favorite carrot cupcakes coming soon!
  5. Be more positive!
  6. Learn to knit. ( That one is for me!)
  7. Find and shop at more local and online small businesses. Like Good Day Dog.
  8. Snuggle more!!

Talking about Good Day Dog, Basil wanted to say a big Thank You for his first GDD collar. We received it a few days ago and it was just perfect. A black collar with a fun happy new year print. It came wrapped with an adorable ribbon and a personalized note. It made Basil and myself feel special and showed us that they appreciated our business. Make sure to head over to their website, you will not be disappointed!

What are your resolutions for yourself and your pets? Let us know in the comments below. Hope everyone has a fun and safe night tonight and check back daily for more Basil’s Travels fun!

We are having a great day with more family and now its time to just sit back and relax.

So, have another glass of eggnog enjoy the last couple of hours of Christmas 2013.
