The Southern Snowpocalypse!

The weather is a little crazy around here. Its been snowing/sleeting all day and the temp keeps on dropping. I took the snow dog out to enjoy the winter wonderland before it got too insane and his BFF Jack decided to join us. They ran around and ate as much snow as they could before the cold caught up with Basil. He is currently curled up, staying warm, and watching this southern snowpocalypse from the safety of our bed.

Keep warm and safe out there!

Basil’s Favorite Things – Burt’s Bees Dog Shampoo

Its Friday and its time for a very over due bath for Sir Basil. Somehow he has gotten out of it everyday for about the last month; Not today! I started the bath, added the bubbles and wake him up from his daily afternoon nap.

He begged me with those eyes to keep that very strong dog odor that he worked so hard for, but it didn’t work!

So, after a few moments of the sad eyes, in the bath Basil went. Being the amazing dog that Basil is he doesn’t fight it or cry he just tries to enjoy the warm water and yummy smell coming from his favorite puppy shampoo. Burt’s Bees Apple & Eucalyptus Deodorizing Shampoo is just perfect. It smells fantastic, bubbles up well, and cleans this little black & white dog like nobodies business!

If you haven’t used Burt’s Bees before we highly recommend it. Their shampoo is made from natural ingredients and is 100% cruelty free. Its easy on Basil sensitive skin and leaves him smelling like apples!

After being soaped up and then rinsed off it was time to call in the “muscle”, also know as my husband. We have a very old house and a super deep bath tub so lifting a wet, 25 lb. dog out of the bath without getting soaked is a little tricky for me.

Once out we dried him off and watched his attitude change from sad face back to the happiest dog in the world! He knows that always after a bath he gets rewarded with many treats, which he totally did! He now smells delicious and I hope that lasts for a long time.

If you are looking for a new dog shampoo give Burt’s Bees a try. You can find at pet stores or we always get it in the pet section of Home Goods.

Hope everyone is have happy Friday and staying warm!

Happy New Year! Basil 2014 Resolutions!

Happy New Year! 2013 is coming to an end and 2014 is just about to start. Here is a list of Basil’s (and my) 2014 resolutions.

  1. Travel Abroad (Hoping to visit Prague, sometime this coming year!)
  2. Meet more dog friends and explore new places together.
  3. Find a Dog Yoga Class (It may not be possible where we are currently traveling but I bet I’ll be able to find one once we are back in good ole’ Seattle.)
  4. Share more DIY projects. Basil’s favorite carrot cupcakes coming soon!
  5. Be more positive!
  6. Learn to knit. ( That one is for me!)
  7. Find and shop at more local and online small businesses. Like Good Day Dog.
  8. Snuggle more!!

Talking about Good Day Dog, Basil wanted to say a big Thank You for his first GDD collar. We received it a few days ago and it was just perfect. A black collar with a fun happy new year print. It came wrapped with an adorable ribbon and a personalized note. It made Basil and myself feel special and showed us that they appreciated our business. Make sure to head over to their website, you will not be disappointed!

What are your resolutions for yourself and your pets? Let us know in the comments below. Hope everyone has a fun and safe night tonight and check back daily for more Basil’s Travels fun!

San Antonio,Texas River walk

Christmas in the Southwest started off with a bang! Traveling into San Antonio, TX to experience the world famous River walk.

We drove into town around lunch time and easily found a place to park. The weather was warm, like around 75 degrees, and for us PNW peeps this was very odd for just a few days before Christmas. Before we hit the walk we soaked up a little bit of this large beautiful city. Grand Southern buildings towered all around us as well as a few churches and five-star hotels. It really is true what they say “Everything is bigger in Texas!” We walk through Hotel Contessa San Antonio. Basked in the glory of the stately Christmas tree in what seemed like a lobby with a never ending ceiling.

Basil was less impressed with the overwhelming beauty of his urban surroundings and more impressed with the very large, very long river that was flowing down the middle of town. He pulled me right up to the ledge of river, which I feel like I must mention had absolutely no railing! This made the River Walk even more beautiful to look at but was a little thrilling for me with a hyper Boston Terrier with an “extreme need” to jump in and swim around and/or drink it.

We spent the next couple of hours walking the paths and stoping in the shops and restaurants as well as watching the river boat tours lazily float down the canal. Along the way there were many great photo opts with waterfalls, floral arrangements and the stage from Miss Congeniality.

As the day slowly turned to night our tummies were starting to tell us that it was time for some food. There are more than a few restaurants to choose from. Almost all of them with large outdoor patios. One thing I did notice while we were there, not only in San Antonio but in Austin as well, every restaurant and bar had someone outside “hawking their wares” to all the pedestrian walking by. Yelling out their specials to get you to come in and spend your money with them. It was very helpful and it was nice to hear a complete stranger tell me  “you deserve a drink!” Yes, yes I do!

We stopped upon the Hard Rock Cafe just as twilight hit. They were super friendly and were more then happy to accommodate our large party that included kids and Basil. The staff lit the massive heating lamps around our tables and took our orders. As we sat we talked and people watched and enjoyed as the Christmas lights all came on. The river was alive with dancing twinkling lights. Soon the river tour boats started floating by with Christmas Carolers and even though the temperature was still in the 70’s it actually felt like the holidays.

With our stomachs full and the kids (and Basil) starting to slow down it was time to head back to the car. The walk back was just as fun. Filled with more friendly people, most of them more interested in talking to Basil than to me! We stopped for a moment and listened to a traveling mariachi and took a ton more photos. The River Walk in San Antonio was such a treat. We can’t wait to come back and highly recommend it if you are traveling anywhere near San Antonio. It was worth the trip for sure!

Until next time San Antonio! Xoxo
