Basil’s party was a hoot! – Dog Bar, Charlotte

Yesterday was Basil’s 4th birthday party at his favorite place in Charlotte, The Dog Bar! On the many drag in the NoDa neighborhood of Charlotte you will find the coolest off-leash dog park that also serves alcohol!

Basil is always happy to hit up the Dog Bar and just meet some new friends but tonight it was about the new friends and the old. We invited our friends from Boston Terriers of Charlotte and a few fellow Seattle Seahawks fan and their pups. The weather was great! No rain and temps in the high 50’s. Basil couldn’t of had a better time and even got a few rocking gifts.

Thanks to all of our friends that stopped by and all the new friends that wished Basil a very happy birthday. Year number 4 is going to rock!

Basil’s Favorite Things – The Seattle Seahawks!

In this house we are serious about our favorite sports team, the Seattle Seahawks, and Friday means Blue Friday! Every Friday before a game we wear our colors proud and Basil is not left out. 12th dog all the way!

So this weekend make sure to support one of the 4 teams that are playing for a chance at the Super Bowl. If you’re not into football you can always join the 12th man and support the Seahawks, we are fine with everyone jumping on our bandwagon! The more the merrier! Go Hawks!

Happy New Year! Basil 2014 Resolutions!

Happy New Year! 2013 is coming to an end and 2014 is just about to start. Here is a list of Basil’s (and my) 2014 resolutions.

  1. Travel Abroad (Hoping to visit Prague, sometime this coming year!)
  2. Meet more dog friends and explore new places together.
  3. Find a Dog Yoga Class (It may not be possible where we are currently traveling but I bet I’ll be able to find one once we are back in good ole’ Seattle.)
  4. Share more DIY projects. Basil’s favorite carrot cupcakes coming soon!
  5. Be more positive!
  6. Learn to knit. ( That one is for me!)
  7. Find and shop at more local and online small businesses. Like Good Day Dog.
  8. Snuggle more!!

Talking about Good Day Dog, Basil wanted to say a big Thank You for his first GDD collar. We received it a few days ago and it was just perfect. A black collar with a fun happy new year print. It came wrapped with an adorable ribbon and a personalized note. It made Basil and myself feel special and showed us that they appreciated our business. Make sure to head over to their website, you will not be disappointed!

What are your resolutions for yourself and your pets? Let us know in the comments below. Hope everyone has a fun and safe night tonight and check back daily for more Basil’s Travels fun!

Basil’s Favorite Things – Hotel Max & Hotel Lucia

This Friday we want to talk about our favorite pet friendly hotel. Hotel Max in Seattle, WA and Hotel Lucia in Portland, OR are part of the same boutique hotel chain in and around the pacific northwest. Both are not only our favorite pet friendly hotel but our favorite all time US hotels. Beautifully decorated and in the heart of both cities you really couldn’t ask for more. Once you walk up to the front desk you and your furry friend are completely taken care of. The rooms are decked out with a heavenly bed, amazing art and everything you need to relax. For your pet they pull out all the stops; a dog bed, food bowls, a toy and treats.

We have stayed at Hotel Max a few times, Nate & I even got ready there for our 2012 wedding. Each time we stayed, with Basil or alone, the customer service was perfect. They did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. As for Hotel Lucia we first got to stay there after winning a pet photo contest on Facebook back in 2011. I stumbled across this contest when one of my friends commented on all the cute pet photos that were all over Hotel Lucia’s Facebook, so I thought I would throw my (or Nolan’s) hat into the ring. A few days later while out at dinner I casually checked my iPhone and found out some awesome news. We won! I was rather excited and loud (oops!) but luckily we were at one of our regular haunts and knew the staff so they just helped us celebrate! Below is the photo that brought home the win.

A few months later we traveled down to Portland and enjoyed a lovely May weekend in the city. Nolan couldn’t have had a better time! See example A!

I couldn’t say enough about how much we love both of these hotels and highly recommend you consider them or any of the Provenance Hotels. We will for sure be back, maybe we’ll see you there!

Basil’s Favorite Things – Chilly Dog Sweaters

Its TGIF and you know what that means… Basil’s favorite things! This Friday, as the weather almost everywhere turns to full on fall we decided to share a long time Basil “must have.” The Chilly Dog sweaters are handmade in South America and 100% wool. They follow fair trade guidelines and give all the employees a fair wage. Not only do we love their company practices but their sweaters are top-notch.

From XS to XL these sweaters fit almost ever dog shape. For Basil, it’s almost impossible to find a well fitted sweater based on his broad chest and thick Boston neck. When we came across Chilly Dog a few years ago at our favorite pet store, All The Best Pet Care, we fell in love. The perfect cold weather dog sweater and every year they sold like hot cakes in Seattle. The first sign that it was going to be wet and cold for awhile we let Basil pick out a few of his favorites.

Right now, while we are traveling in the South, today was the first truly chilly day. I pulled out his moose sweater and slipped it right on. The thick wool and hood, with the most adorable moose ears warmed him right up. If you’re looking for a sweater for your four legged friend and may be having a hard time finding a good fit or just don’t want a prissy dog sweater make sure to check out the Chilly Dog website

So, today we are going to enjoy this brisk fall day without having to worry that my little guy is going to catch cold. Enjoy your weekend!

Lions, tigers and turtles?! Oh My!!

Its Halloween time again and that means everyone from little kiddies to partying adults to the our four legged friends get ready to dress up and have a good time! Here in this household we are big into dressing up. Usually Willow FC “begs” to be a blow fish and Sebastian just “loves” his hot dog costume. Last year, Basil decided he was going to be a pirate. Mostly because Nate & I went as Peter Pan and Ticker bell and Basil loves to match.Halloween2012

This year we thought we would ask all of Basil’s loving fans to vote on their favorite costume  for Halloween 2013. Below you will find sample photos, all from wag.com, and a poll to tell us what you think. Whatever is voted highest by Friday October 11th will be Basil costume this year. Thanks for your help in this very important matter and we will announce the winner this weekend and some adorable photos will follow!

What should Basil be for Halloween 2013?

Throwback Thursday – Remembering No No Nolan

Happy throwback Thursday! On this TBT we wanted to remember an old friend that we lost almost two years ago. He came to our home as an 11 year old foster in pretty bad shape. Severely over weight, very smelly and with an awful name, No No Bad Dog!! Well, after a few puppy baths and a healthy meal we decided that he could’t go on with the rest of his life with such a rude name. We tried a few names that started with the letter N but nothing seemed to stick. I don’t remember who thought of the name Nolan but the moment it was said out loud he knew and we knew, that was it!Nonoglasses

No No Nolan was the original traveling Boston terrier. Despite his advanced age he was a trooper. Once he lost a bit of weight he was walking to the farmers market in Ballard, WA every Sunday. He was hiking with us in Leavenworth, shopping in Portland and picnicking with us anywhere and everywhere. Nolan had a heart of gold and loved everyone! Even though Basil never got to meet his amazing older brother I just know they would have been the best of friends.

We lost Nolan very suddenly at the age of 12 the day before Thanksgiving 2011. I miss him everyday and I have never again met a dog with the same personality.

No No Nolan was proof that when you are looking for a new pet, giving an older dog a chance can really be an amazing thing.

Basil was very happy to be able to share his blog to remember the original Myers family traveling Boston terrier, Nolan!

Doggie Tuxedos!

Hello! Over the last 9 months or so I’ve been asked many times where we got Basil’s doggie tuxedo that he wore at our wedding. He looked so handsome and even a group of complete strangers were taking photos of my dog on the streets of Seattle.

I know that wedding season 2013 has passed but if you are getting married anytime this fall, winter or in 2014 and plan on having your pet involved in your big day you are probably looking for the perfect formal outfit. After searching the internet high and low I pretty much came up empty. Don’t get me wrong, Etsy is a great place to find unique, artsy everything but what I found there just didn’t seem worth the price most of the shops wanted to charge. After almost completely giving up and figuring ‘hey, I have a black & white dog it will be okay’ I struck doggie tuxedo gold!

It was the day after Halloween 2012 and I decided to hit up Target for some discount Halloween candy when I saw it. Before this I probably wouldn’t have thought of buying a Halloween costume but it was perfect. They had every size and because it was the day after Halloween it was 50% off the already amazing Target prices. So, if you are in the market for some formal puppy wear for any size mutt check out Target or any Halloween super store that will be popping up any day now. Also, check out Wag.com they have a lot of costumes up right now and when you make your first purchase you get free shipping for 90 days.
